History of the Church

Located in Holiday Beach, just one block off of Highway 35 North, the First Baptist Church of Holiday Beach was a dream that began in 1971 by a group of dedicated volunteers who began planning the Church and meeting in the Baumgart Water Building. One of the founding members, Betty Latham, is still a member of the church. The Pastor at that time was L. Paul Hendrick. Harold Lindenmeyer then became the Pastor.

The Church, built by volunteers, was completed and dedicated December 2, 1975. Other Pastors were John Land and George Montgomery. Pastor Jack Bourland led the Church from September, 1992 until November 30, 2004. William Gentry became pastor thereafter and was ordained April 3, 2005. During Brother Jack's ministry, the little Church grew to become a central part of this community due to Brother Jack's ready smile, boundless love, endless energy and enthusiasm.

The Church's fellowship hall was completed by many volunteers and dedicated to Brother Jack's late wife, Lorraine Bourland. Bourland Hall is the center of many community events, including special music presentations, potluck dinners, family reunions, weddings and receptions, and meetings.

There are many dedicated members in this Church who volunteer their time to serve the church and community. A new nursery has been donated and set up; some do floral arrangements; some do repairs, or yard work, or painting, or whatever is needed. What's your special talent?

Holiday Beach is blessed indeed to have this Church here in our midst and we invite YOU to join with us.   Activities and times are listed above.
